Being My Own Worst Enemy

Hi There

Do you ever think that maybe you are not where you want to be because YOU are in your own way in some shape or form? Why is it easy to look for extrinsic causes than intrinsic? Is it really just me that feels like this?

I am my own enemy! Sometimes I am not even aware that I am. But it amazes me that I am still in my own way. It just reaffirms to me that we need to do introspection as much as possible. We change and our environment has impacts on us even if we are not immediately aware of it. This is not a bad thing… But I do think it is a something we to not place enough importance on.

We can not change what we do not know. Thus we should investigate ourselves regularly and KNOW what WE WANT, WHY WE WANT IT and WHO WE ARE. Because the reasons change and we change and what we want change.

Today, I needed to take responsibility for being in my own way, for being my own worst enemy without really consciously knowing it. I made excuses and I lost my passion. I almost gave my self a fatal wound!

I am the only one who can account for my life and what I have and had done with it. ME, MYSELF and I. I would rather be my own cheerleader, champion, best friend and motivator than keeping myself down without even knowing it or knowing why.

I am changing this today. I need some introspection and changing my enemy to my greatest Ally!!

Endurance

#OneWord, Amazing, Important Stuff, Me, My passion, Serious Stuff, Uncategorized, What I Do, Words

Hi There

I love words. I believe that words have power. I believe that we can change any and every thing with our words. Not immediately, but through our thoughts. The way we communicate our thoughts (through words) plays  a role in our actions. I believe it can be the start of being greater.

This month I will be Coruscate on the word Endurance. Not just physically, but also figuratively. I want to endure more admin and standing up for myself. Endure the last few months of the year.

Who is with me? Ready to endure with me? Let us work on our endurance this month.

Hi There

This is going to be a very honest and personal post. But hopefully someone will relate and gain something out of reading this.

My focus this year is to evolve #2018Evolve #OneWord #OneWord2018!! All my #’s!! It isn’t really the time to reflect yet, but the year is ending soon… So it happens automatically… This year has taught me so much. I have identified so many aspects of … ME!! I am quite a bag of contradictions and interesting nonsense…

I have also identified my biggest fear… And it baffles me. It was not a normal fear I expected, like being alone, more like ending up alone ( an actual fear of mine); but I was afraid of being me. Doing ME. Almost as if all my insecurities caused me to hide and try to be like others. I hope this makes sense, but it was like if I am me no one would like me or I would be to exposed. Like I am not good enough the way I am. I hid from myself and did not even realize it.

As I have been learning to know ME and doing ME, scary as hell… I like me. I like that I am different, that I have different opinions and look different. I am not afraid to be me anymore. I might not be everybody’s cup of tea, but I am me…That for me is enough!!

I want to encourage you to BE YOU, to DO YOU and most importantly FOR YOU!! Not only will YOU see and live and appreciate the change that occurs, but those close to you would too!!! That for me was the best, because they love me, so why can I not love me as well?

Do You maybe have any thoughts or stories of BEING YOU, DOING YOU, FOR YOU and how it has impacted you?

Thank You

Muscle Of The Week… Goal

Hi There

I want to explain my reasoning with my Muscle Of The Week Series. My aim with the series is to increase specific knowledge of the muscles. Like their names, where they are and what their functions are. I am trying to make the series as easy to understand as possible. But I want to use the correct terminology.

This is important to me, because if one at least knows the area or function of the muscle we connect to our bodies. Remember our brain and body needs to “talk* to each other. Yes, they communicate, but they do not talk. This is how we build our body awareness and understand movement.

It is always the small things that make or break us. I understand that not everyone has knowledge of anatomy and physiology or even training in said subjects, but I believe that a bit of understanding goes a long way. I mean it is essentially learning about yourself and how you work.

It is a step in discovering who you are. I mean we are more than the some of our parts.

Please have a look at the series on my other blog and please let me know you if I am reaching my goal. Do you understand what I am saying? How can I make it easier? I would really appreciate some feedback.

Thank You

Professionalism in Movement/Sport

Important Stuff, Me, My Clients Inspire Me, My passion, Serious Stuff, Thank You, Thruth, Uncategorized, What I Do

Hi There

I want to give my personal view on professionalism in Sport. This is an topic that really touches base with me. I mean I feel very affected by this.

What I do is a profession, it is a science. I have an university degree. I had to work very hard to get where I am. I also believe that because of my background I have a very unique understanding/relationship with movement. One that gives me an eye for analyzing and correcting movement. Something I thank God for.

In my field we do not have “normal” working/office hours. We are up and running sessions “before work” for our clients/athletes then the afternoon/after school sessions and lastly the “after work” sessions. This “usual unusual” timeline we follow can make a day very long. Yes, we do not follow the “normal” work hours, but we still work.

I personally do not just pitch and suck a session out of my thumb. Every session is planned and worked out, with room for unforeseeable circumstances… This takes time to do. I plan every session once a week and then refine it a day before and before the session it self. Sometimes the plan must change due to injuries or tournaments or even sickness and emotional events. I have to keep this all in mind while still delivering a good solid workout for clients and athletes alike. I also have admin to maintain to ensure I am pushing my clients/athletes enough or to know that we are moving in the right direction. This I do in the form of testing.Which in itself needs analyzing, extrapolating and reporting on the data and then adjusted accordingly. This takes Time. I have a whole plan and every movement has a specific reason and goal to achieve in the session.

I do have a bit more free time, but I ran a business and it takes admin to maintain and grow it. I do not just laze around until I have a session. I hate it that people assume because I do not conform to “office hours” I do not work as hard or as much as the “norm”! I do work and my time is also way more physical than the “norm”, I word hard!! I love what I do and I put my heart and soul in every session and I am sure it is the same for many others in this industry. This an actual profession.

Our uniforms are not very restrictive movement wise but in the looks department we do not come across as “serious”. I also think we need to compete with the fitness craze outfits that are being produced. I love it by the way, but I am working not working out. It is hard to draw the line sometimes. I need to look the part and move comfortably to demonstrate where needed but I also need to look presentable and respectable! Any one feel the same?

I think how we as professionals act plays a big role in how we are perceived as professionals in our profession. We need to be professional at all times, even if it requires more tact and personal contact than other professions. I believe that because I am working with a person, meaning that person’s body; I also take the person as more than the sum of his/her parts. I have a responsibility to uphold that person’s trust in me. He/She is trusting me with their body and that I will not hurt or cause any damage to them in any shape or form. That is huge!!!! It is something I am very aware of in my work! But I need to respect their boundaries and they need to understand reasoning behind everything. There needs to be consistent communication. I I also need to motivate and be enthusiastic even if I personally do not feel like it. There needs to be reporting on the progress and what has been done and a plan forward. We need to be punctual. This is on every coach, personal trainer, instructor etc.

I believe this is where we lack in the “professional” realm, we are not always taken seriously, because we do not look like “societal seriousness…” That is ok, but in our own way we need to strive for professionalism! So that we can be taken seriously and deliver quality service in our profession. Make difference in the people’s lives we work with!

Challenge To Do Something For Myself

Hi There

Today, I want to talk about about a blog I posted about the #SomethingForMeEverydayChallenge . A quick recap. The goal is to do something small for yourself everyday. Something that is ENTIRELY for YOU!

I started this challenge, but to be honest, it has been tough. I realized that I really had to THINK about what can I do for me? Like it was really hard! I also realized I do a lot for those who are close to me. I just don’t do the same for me.

To be clear, when I say do something for yourself. I mean small things that full your heart with joy. Listening to a song and taking it in. Dancing to one of your favourite song. Meditate. Take a walk etc. As long as you and your joy is the focus of #SomethingForMeEverydayChallenge.

One thing that I have been doing for JUST me, is that I take 10 to 20 minutes to enjoy a coffee. Not rush or drink on the go. No, actually taste each sip. I try to do this once a day outside. When I am stressed or think I do not have time, I make time. In this short period of time, I feel lighter and my loved ones love it! I am not so heavy anymore.

We can not take care of the people around us if we do not take care of ourselves.  If we do this we become bitter and even burnout. Then we are help to no one not even ourselves!

So again, anyone going to join me with the #SomethingForMeEverydayChallenge ? Also let me know what you guys are doing by tagging me in you Instagram posts

My Responsibility Towards You…

#MentorSessions, Amazing, Important Stuff, Me, My Clients Inspire Me, My passion, Serious Stuff, Thank You, Thruth, Uncategorized, What I Do

Hi There

This blog is in response to Putting In The Effort on my other blog. There is a relationship between a trainer and client/athlete. A accountability relationship for your goals to be reached; to be successful.

I have a huge responsibility towards my athletes/clients. I mean they put their body in my hands. That is a type of trust they have in me. Some don’t even know this is what they are doing. But they trust that I will help them to reach their goals. They do not even KNOW ME, but from day one they have given me this trust.

Personally, it is HUGE. I take it very seriously. Because they have deem me good enough to have this trust. I literally after this point have the power to physically hurt them. Not that I want to or even try, but this is what happens when they sign up to work WITH me to reach their goals. This exchange is HUGE as I’ve said. To me this is so powerful and means I have a responsibility that is bigger than just “getting healthy, losing weight, enhance performance”. I have to protect the body and the whole which they have entrusted me with. This is why I call it a relationship. They trust me with their whole being to help them, I trust them to do as I say and as I educate them to move forward towards their own success.

I also want to encourage you to take care of your body and who you trust. Do research, ask around and make sure you can talk to your trainer and that he/she understands your needs and goals.

I hold this trust that my athletes/clients place in me very dear. I think about it as I prepare for ALL my sessions and EACH session.

With this I also want to say Thank ALL my athletes/clients that have blessed me with their trust in me and giving me the small honor to be apart of their Moving journey!

Thank You

Unpacking The Box

#MentorSessions, Important Stuff, Serious Stuff, Uncategorized, What I Do

Hi There

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

About three weeks ago my Mentor gave me some homework… And you know we all love homework… Usually I do actually love doing the tasks assigned to me. I love to excel at them and show that I have learned something and value it. But this task I dreaded and felt very uncomfortable. I had to unpack my box.

This means to exam yourself and basically get to know the raw unfiltered YOU. What you hide from the rest of the world and in most cases even yourself. Having to admit something to others is one of the toughest things we as humans do, but admitting something to yourself seems to be near impossible. I said NEAR impossible, not impossible. Usually we look and exam all the outside factors, before we even come close to ourselves, sometimes we never even reach the root cause of our mishaps, or mistakes. Because we do not want to dig deep into yourselves and admit that things went wrong because deep down we have an insecurity and it reaches through to every decision we make and that is why we made the mistake in the first place. Some will never know the “why” behind their action because they are too afraid to unpack the box and dig for the root causes of their behavior.

Sometimes we need to know why we behave the way we do. Because it does affect EVERY aspect of our being, if we admit it or not.

So take time and unpack some boxes this week. Let me know how it goes. Believe me it is not easy, but so empowering and freeing, like all things good!!

Good luck!

Why I am no Champion/Olympion

Amazing, Me, My Clients Inspire Me, My passion, Uncategorized, What I Do

Hi There

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I always ask my athletes if they are normal or athletes. Because athletes are not normal. They do more than what is expected in EVERY training session. They ACT different when it comes to being the BEST. They truly want to be the BEST and that means WINNING the RIGHT way and DOING EVERYTHING it TAKES. Normal people either do not have the drive or discipline, sometimes both. Yes there are some elements that need to be taken in account like talent, body type and genes, but like we have all heard before… It takes 10% Talent and 90% hard Work.

I do don’t mind hard work and giving everything I got. To be honest I just do not have the drive. When I see an athlete leaving his heart out there and pushing the limits I get goosebumps! I know what it takes. What is going on in the body to produce the effort, throw in some technique and the mind that won’t let the body give up. It is amazing!!! When the soul pushes the mind with a will that will not be broken and the mind that takes the body to pressures it has never experienced and the body does what the mind tells it to. They come together and achieve greatness! AMAZING. Keep in mind that this does not just happen. Every training session, every prepared meal, every “no” and sacrifice, every injury, rehab and pain ALL part of that EXACT moment. All coming together in harmony. Beautiful!

For me being able to watch this unfold in my athletes and clients alike is pure bliss. It is what I dream of and what I work for. I am not capable of this but just to have a small part in their glory is enough.

Sometimes Mind Over Matter, Matters

Me, My passion, Serious Stuff, Uncategorized, What I Do

Hi There

What I want to share today affects me personally. I work with people, and if you follow my blogs you know my passion and job is movement. I also work with all my clients holistically. Aaaannnd… Let’s be honest.

We don’t always feel in the mood to move or exercise or eat better. I mean, sometimes we want to just sit, watch a movie and eat junk! My view on this is… It is fine! Just don’t do it everyday.

In the words of Simon Sinek if you go to the gym and eat more healthy you do not see the results the very next day, week or even sometimes a month, but you feel it sooner than you see it… But if you do it on a regular bases others will start seeing the change in your appearance. He also mentions that if you are regularly live an healthy lifestyle, having a “bad junk food day” doesn’t make a big difference. But if you live a bad health lifestyle one “good food/exercise day” it makes no difference. We are what we repeatedly do. Not what we do once in a while. It is ok not to be perfect. In fact we will never be perfect.

What I am trying to say is that sometimes we don’t feel like doing what is good or giving up because results are taking their time to show up. But that we have to convince your minds to get over that and start moving. Mind over matter. We need to be resilient towards our goals. “I do not feel”: needs to change to: “I do not care how i feel I am”  If we based everything on how we feel nothing would ever get done…

All the above is easier said than done… But doable

Keep Moving!

God Bless
